Neck & Deck – Moderate (New start for old Valverde)

October 2, 2016 @ 06:30 - 10:00

Ride Groups: Green, Yellow, Red & Blue

Ratings: Technical 5/10 Hills: 7/10 Distance: 25(Green) to 46km (Blue)

Starting from: Neck & Deck Cafe, Rhino and Lion Park, Kromdraai

Starting Time: 06h30 for 07h00

Ride Description: This ride is the same as that ridden on previous Valverde rides except the long downhill single track is more or less at the end of the ride. The Green route is in two sections of there and back with the first being out on single track and then back on tar (16km). The second section involves a tar climb to the start of the downhill and then down on the famous single track (10km).

All the groups start out heading North East on a long slow set of rolling hills passing the Lion and Rhino Park, the old Teak Place all the way back to Beyers on single track (The greens turn back at the 8km mark and then ride back on tar to the Neck and Deck – do not ride on the single track – it is officially one way). All other groups take a shortcut just before Beyers on some challenging single track and descend Beyers and climb up past Valverde on a mixture of gravel, single track and tar.Once past Valverde go off the tar again onto gravel road, jeep track and single track. Yellow take the more direct route from Beyers onto the old Pete-Z-area road, while red and blue continue to the N14. Red and Blue skirt past Avianto and then ride some of the single tracks South of Avianto before climbing a long single track uphill back to the Muldersdrift Road and the finally joining the yellow route at the start of a magnificent 3.5km downhill single track all the way to the Cradle Road. Even though this is marked one way for the downhill, beware mad riders attempting to climb against the traffic. It’s all over at the botton with only 1km back to the Neck and Deck. Once the green’s make it back to the Neck and Deck they climb up the tar to Kloozicht with all the other road cyclists and then come down the hill again on the awesome single track.
This is a mountain and road bike friendly place.

Visitors welcome at R30 per visitor. Bring money for breakfast afterwards.
