Starting From: Smuts House – Irene

Starting Time: 7h30 for 8h00 (PLEASE NOTE THAT IT’S BACK TO WINTER TIMES AND WE’RE STARTING HALF AN HOUR LATER!)

Ride Description:  Starting from Smuts House the ride is an easy jaunt around the Smuts House area. As this a family ride, emphasis was placed in shorter distances that will (hopefully) encourage stronger riders to take the leap into the next level. Stronger groups will ride around the back of Cornwall Hill for some killer hill climbing. The ride starts by going North along the railway line; riding uphill for a stretch at the N1 highway, then West down the now fast concreted wall of Cornwall Hill. Cross under the R21 and back, then some nice single track down into the Red Barn race route; climbing up to the South end of the circuit and back North through a Red Barn section with a series of whoop-de-doos in and out of a dry river bed with nice berms on the opposite walls; dropped back down to the old fort, climbed up to the shooting range road, then a long climb up to the new power station and finally the quick descent down to Smuts House.

Directions:  Take the N1 North to PTA/Polokwane. In Centurion take the M18 / Botha Ave off-ramp and head right onto Botha Ave for 2.2 km. Turn left into Nellmapius Drive (M31), go under the railway line and take the first road to the right into Jan Smuts Ave. Follow the tree-lined Jan Smuts Ave (becomes 23rd Street after 1.8km) directly to the Smuts House Museum. Look for the JMBC feather.
