The Johannesburg Mountain Bicycle Club, known as JMBC, was established in 1989 and remains dedicated to the joy of off-road cycling.
The club consistently arranges social rides throughout most weekends of the year, catering to diverse rider preferences. These rides accommodate various pace groups, covering distances suitable for a wide range of fitness and skill levels. This allows riders to find the group which best matches their abilities.
Every week, a different starting venue is announced. This brings extra diversity into our rides and offers a great opportunity for riders to discover Johannesburg's lesser-known areas on a bicycle. The trails, mainly situated in open land, are crafted with the intention of incorporating as much single track as possible.
Visitors are always welcome for a very nominal fee of just R30.
This Sunday's JMBC club ride is the “JMBC Kyalami Corner” outride, which starts and ends at the Kyalami Corner shopping centre. It’s rated as a moderate ride, so suitable for most riders. We will be meeting in the car park near the Mugg and Bean (free parking), new-comers look out for riders in Blue JMBC jerseys. Park in the Northern parking area close to the security boom. Meet at 6h30 to ride at 7h00. All riders are asked to sign in, either as members or guests. All groups start from the car park. Guests are welcome to join the event at R30 per rider - no charge for guests riding in the Green group.
*Groups:* Please select the appropriate group in which to ride, based on your current state of fitness, skill level etc. This is for the benefit of the rest of the riders in the group, taking into consideration, ride enjoyment and safety issues.
*Route:* We ride clockwise so turn left out the car park and cross over the main road onto the single track. We all head Northwest for an exciting new track through Riversands and up to Summit Road. Green turn back East while Blue head out through Noordwyk for an extra 10km loop.
Distances: Green 25km Yellow 28km Red 35km Blue 45km
No official club ride last weekend, but well done to our riders who entered and completed the 94.7 road challenge. We also had the club's year function picnicing in the beautiful gardens of Toadbury ...
Yes, you're reading the latest JMBC newsletter. Our cover pic (no bikes!) was so good, we had to put it in. Two of our members sent us some lovely pics from another land, showing us that it can be lot...
This coming Sunday's ride is BREEDT’S NEK….. our Long One.. It’s a ride you have to do once…. but at least the views are great !!!! The start/finish venue will be at “Noble Village” All groups are catered for, most of the ride is gravel roads, and only Red & Blue tackle the 3km climb up (Blue will go over the other side). The terrain is most flat with little elevation gain, this allows the groups to choose the distance that suits the riders of the day. The area is safe. This is an opportunity to ride a bit further than you usually do - good for those doing 94.7 or other upcoming events. The Noble village has a full restaurant providing food and drinks (craft beer) and is located just off the R563. We will meet in car park, so look out for the JMBC blue jerseys. Take note of the start time, we meet at 6:30am to ride at 7.00am. All groups start from the car park. Guests are welcome to join the event at R30 per rider, unless riding Green group, then no charge.
Distances : TBC - Green: 28km - Yellow: 43km - Red: 60km - Blue: 70km Bring some cash for food and drinks and enjoy the socialising afterwards. See you all there!
